How To Find A Mentor
So many wildly successful people have great mentors and suggest finding at least one to guide you. Since my late teens I’ve been saying I was ready. I had heard the phrase when you’re ready the teacher appears and I would keep saying I’m ready I’m ready! I was so disappointed when a teacher didn’t appear out of nowhere, take me under their wing, and teach me everything they know. I’ve recently realized, however, how many times this wish has been answered for me in two big ways.
The first is in the incredible amount of teachers and mentors in my life, some that I’ve spent many hours with and some who I’ve never met. I realized I don’t have to meet these people or have them know me personally to know their lessons and knowledge have spread to me. I have access to websites, books, podcasts, documentaries, online classes, videos, articles etc. Some amazing mentors I’ve had along my path include:
Christine Arylo - self love
Rachel Hollis - entrepreneurship
Gianna Andrews - art
Radha Agrawal - social gatherings
Sarah Kay - spoken word
Rising Appalachia - music
Maggie Rodgers - music
Malaika Darville - dance
Victoria Erickson - poetry
Janne Robinson - creative writing
Adi Shakti - yoga
Eleanor Bramwell - trauma psychology
Julia Midland - yoga activism
Emily Kuser - yoga and women’s work
Francie Fishman - spiritual music
Hala Khouri - trauma informed yoga
Just to name a few
The second thing I’ve realized is the true teacher inside myself and in all of us. I can’t share anything I’ve learned without integrating it into my own body and mind. It must first pass through my inner teacher and make sure it’s something I truly believe in. Students will say the best mentors are those who teach you to listen to your inner teacher.
Armed with the knowledge that these and many other incredible voices have taught me, and most especially my wise voice within, I have started my own 1:1 mentoring. If you are interested in working with me, find out more here.
May you be guided by many along your path.
